Notes from Coach Michele

The District meet information is in this PDF. The District meet is in Brentwood, TN. this year hosted by Excel Aquatics on Feb. 20-21. District meet entries are due by Monday Feb. 8th

The intermediate/beginner group has done a much better job keeping the dressing area clean. I very much appreciate it!

Kicking off the New Year:Waddell and Rhoads
I hope everyone had a great, productive break. The senior kids worked their tail ends off finishing up two weeks of Christmas training in Memphis last Saturday. The grand total was 113,200 yards. Congrats to Molly Waddell and Caitlin Rhoads for swimming every single yard.

Today (1/4/10) was our first day back for the younger swimmers and I must say in the two weeks they've been gone, I have had hardly anything to clean up, however, the return of the kids brought the return of the mess and I was picking up suit tags, suit liners, socks, and candy wrapper until 6:30 tonight. How is in that the older kids swam for 2 weeks and I never had to clean up after practice, but now on the first day back it took 30 minutes. Please remind your swimmers to police their area and throw all their trash away.

Welcome back intermediate and beginner, congratulations seniors! Looking forward to a heathy, balanced, inspired 2010.

How to Register for USA meets:
USA meets are different from summer meets. You are responsible for printing out the entry form, choosing your swimmer's events, and paying the entry fees.

1. Go to site of hosting swim team. Find link to registration form and print form.

2. Choose which events your swimmers wants to swim and fill out the entry form

3. Add up meet fees. The meet fees will be in the invitation. Generally it is a $3 or $4 SE Surcharge and $3 or $4 per event. Sometimes there is a facility fee. Make sure you add up the surchage plus the per event fee. Make checks payable to FAST Apparel and I'll write one check to the host team. (The host team doesn't appreciate 40 or 50 individual checks)

4. Give your entries to me, or have Charlotte put them in my mailbox.

See you at the pool,
Michele

See you at practice. Remember - give your
swimmer a reason to succeed, not an excuse to fail.

August 03, 2009

I had an interesting thought today and you’ll probably laugh when you hear how it originated…

I ate some veggie rice at Wok-n-Roll today and opened my fortune cookie that read, “A man will not support your issues unless they are his own.”

Substitute some words and I changed it to, “A parent will not support your vision unless it is their own.”

Let me ask you, what is your vision for your swimmer, for your team?

I can tell you mine:

I want every swimmer to compete at the next level whether it be a USA meet, southeasterns, Sections, Nationals, or Olympic Trials. I want FAST to be an environment where every swimmer can reach their maximum potential. I want every swimmer to push themselves for a little more at each practice. I want every swimmer to embrace perfect stroke technique and strive to improve every chance they get. I want FAST to be an environment that keeps kids in the water and out of trouble.

My vision for FAST is much bigger than what we have now. I want a 50 meter by 25 yard indoor pool where we can develop top tier athletes. I want the summer recreation program to build into a feeder program for a competitive program and introduce new swimmers to the sport with scaring them away.

I want my parents, swimmers, and coaches to embrace healthy lifestyles and set an example for other people. I want my swimming family to get out in the community and support their sport and overall health. I want FAST to be an advocate to change.
I want FAST to change… A vision is change, in a good way.

Michele

Think FAST!

In October 2008 the city of Florence reduced the FAST travel budget for 2009 (1/1/09-12/31/09) had been cut to $1500 (over $4200 was expended in 2008). The travel budget is used for gas, lodging, and food for coaches to USA meets, Summer meets, the Summer state meet, coaching clinics, and any other required travel. As many of you know a weekend at a swim meet can be expensive. Generally the breakdown is about $100 for a room (if there are two coaches = 2 rooms; if the meet is far away, like Chattanooga, or more than 2 days like South Easterns the hotel is more) $50 - gas $30 - meals. On average a weekend with one night in a hotel costs around $200. Meets closer to home like HSA and MSA don't require a hotel stay.

A goal of $2500 to bring our travel budget for 2009 to $4000 has been set. Please make checks payable to Florence Parks & Recreation. Please remit to Coach Michelle or Charlotte at Royal Avenue office. Your generous support is greatly appreciated.

Recently, a $200 donation in the form of $25.00 gas cards - what a unique idea.
